Panaji: Australian Booked for Cheating in Goa


Panaji, Jul 7 (IANS): Police in Goa is hunting for an Australian national who has gone missing after allegedly duping several people of lakhs of rupees, officials said Thursday.

Sean Demont, 40, who has been booked by police, was staying in the coastal beach village of Colva, 35 km from here.

"We have received several complaints against him at the Colva police station. He has cheated a local travel agent of around Rs.17 lakh," Deputy Superintendent of Police, Margao, Umesh Gaonkar told IANS Thursday.

Two women, Christina Rebello and Filomena Pereira, have also complained to the police of being cheated by Demont to the tune of Rs.2.68 lakh and Rs.2.3 lakh respectively.

"We have intimated all police stations about Sean. The search for him is on," Gaonkar said.
