Mangalore: Keith D’Souza Ferrar is New YCS President

Mangalore, Jul 4: The annual general body meeting and the training programme for the new unit office-bearers of Young Christian Students (YCS) of Mangalore diocese was held at Shanthikiran, Bajjodi, on Sunday July 3.
Fr Ronald Prakash D’Souza, director, YCS/YSM Mangalore Diocese, inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. Thereafter he celebrated the Eucharist and inspired the members through his homily.
Soon after the Eucharist, Fr Charles Menezes, Francis D’Cunha Mulky, and Rohan Pereira, Vamanjoor conducted the leadership training programme for the unit office-bearers on their roles and responsibilities at the unit-level. Fr Ronald D’souza evaluated the deanery and diocesan level programmes and motivated the unit office-bearers to do their duty in an effective manner. He announced annual programmes and asked the members to participate enthusiastically.
In the afternoon, the election for new central council members for the year 2011-2012 was held. Norbert Misquith and Arun Siddakatte, animator of YCS for Mangalore Diocese, were the election commissioners. Rohan Pereira was the master of ceremony. The following members were elected as the new central council:

The valedictory and handing over ceremony of the office-bearers was held at 3 pm. Fr Joseph Martis, rector, St Josephs Inter Diocesan Seminary, presided over the function. Fr Charles Menezes, national director, was the chief guest. Rev Fr Joseph Martis felicitated the outgoing council members by giving mementos during the programme. Fr Ronald thanked everyone for their selfless service and support.
Rashmi, Bendur, a delegate representing Mangalore Diocese, shared her experience at the International YCS World Council held in Delhi. The outgoing central council members handed over charge to the newly-elected council. Tini Canute, out-going president, expressed his gratitude toYCS/YSM for the opportunity that he got in YCS programmes which helped him to grow in his capacities and talents. He thanked everyone for the co-operation and support from his team members and also from the units. New president Keith D’souza expressed his sentiments of gratitude on being elected president of the diocese.
Diocesan president Tini Canute D’costa, Siddakatte, welcomed the gathering. Diocesan Rep Ms. Rashmi Peris, Bendur, compered the programme and Diocesan YCS/YSM director Fr Ronald Prakash D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks. The programme concluded at 4 pm with the YCS anthem.
