Mangalore, Jul 4: Large number of sports enthusiasts actively took part in the ‘kesaru gadde pandyata’ (games on slushy paddy field) which was organized at Pavanje, here.
The unique two-day competition was organized by Tulunada Kesarugadde Kreedotsava Samiti on Saturday July 2 and Sunday July 3.
The contestants ran, fell and played on slush with ecstasy. The purpose of organizing such events is to create awareness about agriculture and sports associated with it.
10 teams from primary schools, 15 teams from high schools and six teams from pre-university colleges participated in the competitions on Saturday.
Men in teams participated in forward and backward running races, tug of war, throw ball and other competitions. The running races and splashing of slush attracted a large gathering as the people passing through the highway stopped their vehicles and watched the contestants’ play.
Speaking to Daijiworld Sathish Bhat, the president of organizing committee said that the competition was conducted at the district level this year where as last year it was held at the taluk level. There was very good response from the public and colleges but unfortunately there was poor response from the Government schools though the organizers had made all the required facilities for their travel and other needs, he added.
