Bangalore, Jul 4: Karnataka Lokayukta, Justice N Saotosh Hegde, reiterated that the Lokayukta's final report on mining scam in the state will be submitted to the government before his term comes to an end later this year. He was speaking to the press persons on Sunday July 3.
"I have certain commitments. I cannot change the timing or contents of the report for the fear of criticism by a few people, or under pressure brought about by people who have been issuing statements in this regard. I want to affirm that the report will be completed and submitted before my term," he clarified.
Hegde said that before finalizing the report, in-depth investigation needs to be conducted in certain areas, and that the Lokayukta is involved with these investigations at present. "Although I cannot set any time limit for me to hand over the report, I can say for sure that it will be done before my term comes to an end," he added, insisting that the report will be a fitting response to those who have been criticizing the functioning of the Lokayukta.
He noted that almost all the political parties have been seeing him as discharging the role of opposition leader. "Through various forums, different political personalities including B K Hariprasad, Digvijay Singh, Kapil Sibal, Veerappa Moily, Janardhan Poojary and BJP national president, Nitin Gadkari, have expressed their opinion that I have been affectively donning the role of the oppositon leader in the state. At present, Congress is gradually acquiring this status and reputation," he felt.
