Bangalore: Maria Susairaj Attains Stardom - Finally!

Bangalore, Jul 4: For years, she strived for fame. She wanted to be a celebrity, pursued by the paparazzi and pestered for interviews. Well, she has found fame albeit in a twisted, nightmarish way.
Maria Monica Susairaj is in the limelight for all the wrong reasons, yet she is being treated like the 'star' she once aspired to be. When she walked out of jail after spending three years awaiting trial for the murder of Neeraj Grover, the media propelled her to stardom while many others fell over each other to greet her with floral bouquets.
The entire nation is caught up in the murder most gruesome. Is it Susairaj’s glamorous face the reason she is being pursued relentlessly by the media while the two others involved in the case have been pushed into the shadows?
Emile Jerome Mathew continues to languish in jail while Grover’s mortal remains are yet to be laid to rest. Nobody is bothered about the fate of Mathew or the feelings of Grover’s family.
This is the reality and we must either accept it or protest against it. Over time, even truth can look like a lie and a lie can appear to be the truth.
In India, it is the media that makes or breaks people. Any doubt about this will be laid to rest with one look at the case of the 29-year-old Kannada starlet who, unknown outside the Kannada cinema world, went to Mumbai seeking a colourful career.
When Susairaj came to Mumbai in 2008, she met Grover, a media executive who could throw a lifeline to aspiring ‘actors’. Susairaj made his acquaintance in her attempts to further her career. At that time she was already in a relationship with Mathew. This was the start of the love triangle which ended in a brutal murder.
Her dream turned into a nightmare and Susairaj was jailed for three years. Lo, and behold! She becomes famous soon after she walks free from jail, after serving her three years.
Very few people sympathize with her knowing the ‘true’ story of ‘Grover’s 300-piece’ murder case.
Ironically, well-known filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has offered her the lead role in his new venture. For RGV, as he is popularly known, his commercial profit is more important than social concern. He knows that the movie will become a hit as people are willing to come and watch it. Popular TV reality show Bigg Boss too was in the news for having reportedly approached her for its next season, but later the news was denied by Colors channel which telecasts the show.
Public Outrage:
The police have displayed their weakness by not being able to present evidence in a scientific way and botching up the case. As a result, a gruesome murder of a young man has been termed a simple case of ‘culpable homicide not amounting to murder’.
The murder of Grover is a perfect example of the degeneration of the values in our society. The manner in which Susairaj and Mathew conspired to destroy evidence indicates the working of a criminal mind.
I would like to ask a simple question. Even if you are in a fit of anger, normally sane persons do not kill others. If this were the case murders could be found in every other house. Even when a murder is impulsive, the natural reaction is fear.
The sight of a dead body and blood can be unnerving. But here, Matthew and Susairaj did everything they could to dispose off the body and destroy evidence in a professional manner like hardcore criminals.
It is another matter that the police messed up the case by not conducting a scientific investigation. Logically, Susairaj played the victim card and proved that she is indeed a fine actress off the screen too. The 'damsel in distress' Susairaj playing the role of a victim certainly helped her.
So, the ultimate winner in the whole matter is Susairaj who has emerged unscathed. The three years in jail seem to have just been a three-year waiting period for the impending star status!
