Mangalore: Mishal Fernandes Vittal is New President of ICYM

Mangalore, Jul 3: The 64th general body election and 14th cup awarding ceremony of the
Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) of Mangalore Diocese, was held on Sunday July 3 at Rosario Church, here. More than 2,000 youth participated in this meeting.

The programme began with the ICYM general body meeting followed by the election . Mishal Fernandes of Vittal parish was elected as Mangalore Diocese’s new ICYM Diocesan president for the year 2011-12. He defeated Roshan D’Souza Kayyar in this election. Roshan got 125 votes while Mishal got 171 votes and was declared winner.

Members of the ICYM Diocesan Executive Council (2011-2012) are:

President: Mishal D’Souza, Vittal

Vice President: Gladson Saldanha, Pakshikere

Vice-President: Roshni D’Souza, Milagres

Secretary: Hilson D’Souza Allipade

Joint Secretary: Sunitha Machado, Sullia

Treasurer: Nelson Monis, Ujire

Outgoing President: Vincent Rodrigues, Madanthyar

The cup awarding ceremony held for the top performing units of ICYM. ICYM unit of Narampady parish won first place in ‘ICYM Cup Awards 2011’. Kumbla ICYM won second place while Vamanjoor ICYM won third place. Venur, Cordel, Paneer, and Arva ICYM units won fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh place, respectively.

Special cup awards in parish category was given to Nirkan ICYM while ICYM cup award in youth movement category was awarded to Uppinangady ICYM and ICYM cup award in society category was awarded to Ujire ICYM.

We must also congratulate the team behind this victory (I do not want to name them, for obvious reasons). The youth of Mangalore Diocese have made a good choice by not giving chance to the anti community elements. Long live ICYM.

All the best !!! you have proved by winning majority votes in election keep the spirit. Today need for the ICYM is

1. Need to build the grass root level of units
2. Need to educate parents on current youth trend
3. need to build good communal harmony
4. need to drive them to national mainstream
5. need to protect them from Evil spirits of our community ( who always try to divide the youth and take advantage of them and enjoy the scene )

I can see Fr Anil name in one of the candidate banner This is wrong as per constitution Fr Anil should terminate his nomination and also can find current utive members name in the banner supporting for this candidate why action not taken ?

Why he has not done ? Any internal adjustment ? Can Fr Anil Answer this question ?

Congratulation to the new ICYM President and all the Central Council Members. In 1980s ICYM was finding it difficult to get a youth leader for the post of President. So, a single person was continuing as President for more than one term. But now there is a severe contest for the post of the President of ICYM. Good development. But where are the Mangalore City Youth Leaders? Inactive or busy with their cellphones, computers, laptops and TV. Wake up Mangalore City Youth Leaders. Make the units strong in the City area. Try Bring all catholic youth together to billed strong ICYM in mangalore diocese. every Sunday try to visit one church to meet youth
and encourage then to Jonie ICYM,some church there is More then hundred youth but in ICYM only 10-15.please try to bring more and more
youth to Join ICYM.do some effective program to encourage youth to Jooine ICYM. Good Luck My Dear Friend.
