Bengaluru, Apr 13: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released the second list of 23 candidates for the Karnataka Assembly election.
Gururaj Shetty Gantihole has been given ticket from Byndoor constituency. Sitting MLA B M Sukumar Shetty has been denied ticket by the BJP.
With this development, Udupi will have fresh faces contesting elections from four constituencies of the district from the BJP. Among all the five MLAs, only Sunil Kumar, the sitting MLA from Karkala has been given a repeat ticket to contest.
Gururaj Gantihole
Gururaj is a resident of Bijoor Gantihole of the taluk. Gururaj, who was born in a lower middle class family, is a RSS volunteer. He has forsaken his family life for the sake of RSS and served as a Pracharak in Sullia and Puttur. At present he is the trustee of an educational institute and provides free education for several students by taking loans.
Earlier on Tuesday, the saffron party had announced the names of 189 candidates in its first list.
In the second list, the saffron party has fielded Nagaraj Chabbi, who recently quit the Congress, as its candidate from Kalghatgi Assembly constituency. However, BJP has not given a ticket to former Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar in its second list as well.
Unable to get a ticket, Shettar had also met the party's National President J.P. Nadda in Delhi on Wednesday, urging him to give the ticket.
