Mangalore: Alleged Hafta Extortionist Arrested

Mangalore, Jul 2: Girish (28) from Kaikamba was arrested by the Bajpe police on the allegation of forcing his way into a shop in Gurpur Kaikamba and threatening the owner to pay protection money (Hafta).
Allegedly, Girish, accompanied by a gang of his supporters, barged into Srinivas Enterprises in Kaikamba on June 29 this year. In a complaint, K Sridhar Rao, who was present at the shop premises at the time the gang illegally entered the shop, said that the gang demanded a sum of Rs 2,000 as Hafta. When he called up zilla panchayat member, Vinod Mada, about the incident, the accused came to know about the act, and posed threats to Mada too, Rao said in his complaint.
Bajpe sub-inspector of police, Anant Murdeshwar, who arrested the accused, produced him in court on Friday.
