Panaji, June 30 (IANS) The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will take up with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh the issue of the hike in price of cooking gas, a party official said Thursday.
NCP general secretary Bharti Chawan told reporters here that party chief Sharad Pawar would be writing to the prime minister on the issue this week.
"We may be a constituent of the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) but if we are not okay with certain policies, we have a right to object and protest," Chawan said.
The hike of Rs.50 per LPG cylinder was really affecting middle class and poor households, he said.
"There is no question of us supporting this hike. We are going to pressurise the Congress into rolling back this unwanted hike," Chawan said.
