Puttur, Apr 5: Fire broke out on Tuesday, April 4, at a textile shop in a commercial complex here causing huge damage to property and goods.
The first and second floor space in the complex were air conditioned and had a large stock of clothes, hosieries, footwear, children's wear and a huge collection of bags.
At around 6.30 am, locals noticed some smoke emanating from the first floor of the complex. They immediately alerted the fire brigade.
As the air-conditioned floor was encapsulated with glass, fire spread quickly and the smoke billowed resulting in large-scale damage to the clothes on the floor. All the clothes got gutted due to the fire.
Three fire tenders were pressed into service and the Uppinangady police were also involved in the operation.
Goods worth an estimated Rs 3 crore were destroyed in the fire accident.
