Kundapura, Apr 3: With the state gearing up to vote in the coming weeks, Kundapura MLA Halady Srinivas Shetty has officially announced on Monday, April 3 that he will not be contesting the upcoming Assembly polls and sought the support of the constituency to the candidate the party chooses.
On Monday, April 3, in the evening reports emerged that Halady was contemplating political retirement with a rider that his close aide Kiran Kumar Kodgi be given the ticket from Kundapura to contest on a BJP ticket.
However, sources close to Halady that the MLA will himself announce his future political moves to the media sections soon.
On the other hand sources also indicate Jayaprakash Hegde's name for the Kundapur constituency. Age factor has been another factor for Halady Srinivas Shetty to go backfoot from the electoral fray. This decision of Halady Srinivas Shetty might affect the finalisation of the candidate on the part of BJP in other constituencies as well.
Halady Srinivas Shetty has been a undefeated MLA representing Kundapura for the past 25 years. He has won as an independent as well from the constituency. During the 2018 election itself there were rumours of him retiring from active politics.
