Mangaluru, Apr 1: The deputy commissioner (DC) called on the malls, wedding halls, auditoriums and film theatres in the district to join hands with the district administration to prevent violation of the model code of conduct. He was speaking after presiding over the meeting of their proprietors at the deputy commissioner’s office auditorium on Saturday April 1.
He further said, “If the political parties or the election candidates are in contact with the owners of malls, wedding halls, auditoriums, film theatres etc, they should not allow use of their stage for violation of the model code of conduct. It is the duty of the owners to bring to the notice of the concerned election officers in cases of violations. If the political parties need to hold meetings or celebrations at wedding halls, auditoriums and malls, they should obtain permission from the district election office through the concerned election officer.
“If the programme was held unknowingly, luring the voters, storing illegal cash, liquor, cooker, sarees, drugs etc is not permitted. Prompt legal action will be taken in cases of violations.
“Programmes held after obtaining permission will be recorded by the flying squad, video team and cases will be registered in case of violations.
“Political parties may not use religious programmes as their stage. Insults to religions or castes are not allowed. Banners, buntings or cut outs are not permitted even if the candidate is from your own home. There are no restrictions on the previously planned wedding programmes,” he said.
District nodal officer Dr Kumar said that people outside the district should not be present in the wedding halls or auditoriums when 48 hours are left for the elections. “Religious places should not be used for campaigning. Loudspeakers can be used only from 6 am to 10 pm. Advertisements can be published only after obtaining permission from the district media committee,” he said.
Police commissioner Kuldeep Jain warned that legal action will be taken in cases of violations of the model code of conduct.
