Bangalore: 15 Killed as Overcrowded Jeep, KSRTC Bus Collide

Bangalore, Jun 27: Fifteen people were killed and five injured in a ghastly accident between a jeep and a KSRTC bus near Tumkum on Monday June 27.
The accident occured when the jeep, which was overcrowded with passengers, collided head-on with the KSRTC bus while trying to overtake another vehicle.
The jeep driver also perished in the accident. According to an eyewitness, the driver tried to overtake another vehicle when the speeding bus rammed into it.
The KSRTC bus was plying from Shimoga Bangalore. The accident took place at around 1 pm. All those killed were in the jeep, while those in the bus escaped with minor injuries.
The jeep was from Gubbi village near Tumkur. The injured were rushed to a government hospital while the bodies were shifted to Tumkur for identification.
Chief minister B S Yeddyurappa announced a sum of Rs 1 lac as compensation to each of the victim's kin, while the injured will get Rs 15,000.
An inquiry has been ordered into the accident. The district police will also book a case of negligence against the jeep's owner and driver for carrying seven more passengers than its capacity, it learnt.
