Bangalore: 15 Killed as Overcrowded Jeep, KSRTC Bus Collide

Bangalore, Jun 27: Fifteen people were killed and five injured in a ghastly accident between a jeep and a KSRTC bus near Tumkum on Monday June 27.

The accident occured when the jeep, which was overcrowded with passengers, collided head-on with the KSRTC bus while trying to overtake another vehicle.

The jeep driver also perished in the accident. According to an eyewitness, the driver tried to overtake another vehicle when the speeding bus rammed into it.

The KSRTC bus was plying from Shimoga Bangalore. The accident took place at around 1 pm. All those killed were in the jeep, while those in the bus escaped with minor injuries.

The jeep was from Gubbi village near Tumkur. The injured were rushed to a government hospital while the bodies were shifted to Tumkur for identification.

Chief minister B S Yeddyurappa announced a sum of Rs 1 lac as compensation to each of the victim's kin, while the injured will get Rs 15,000.

An inquiry has been ordered into the accident. The district police will also book a case of negligence against the jeep's owner and driver for carrying seven more passengers than its capacity, it learnt.

    vincy, SHAMBOOR/BANGKOK and Rudolf Rodrigues, Bantwal/Mumbai please dont blame govt's for each and everything. It's also the people who have to take extra care while driving. There are some people who drive on roads as if they are the king of roads. This is a very sad incident happened. May their soul rest in peace.

    To be frank we "drive" in India BUT we actually "learn driving" when we apply for licence in other countries(like GCC).
    May their souls RIP.
    -The district police will also book a case of negligence against the jeep's owner and driver for carrying seven more passengers than its capacity.....Police can book case on a dead person too!!!!

    May there souls RIP,Tumkur , Chitradurga, Bellary these districts all are on the plain lands majorly, they use this vehicle Known as Tempo Trax Toofan, its a extended version of a normal 9 seater, which can hold 13 people as per the RC, they load upto 22 guys in this as i have travelled in the same in Gangavathi, this has a powerful Mercedes DI engine and the vehicle justs glides on the road, the Body quality and brakes the lesser spoken the better all at a cost of 5.35 (2009) for a brand new vehicle,this vehicle has a very high faltality rate compared to its competitors like Sumo,Mahindra Maxx, must be becausce of the body gauge and brakes i guess

    Roshan, well said and should agree you. However completely disagree with Rudolf, as the road itself seems to be in very good condition. It was learnt that the driver was very young with less experience, as per Timesofindia, and was at fault with overcrowded Jeep. So sad story. During Driving, discipline and respect to the vehicle is uttermost important.

    This is a ghastly accident claiming 15 innocent lives in one shot. May their souls RIP!

    15 passengers in a vehicle designed for 7???

    Unless the Govt. improves roads, these sort of accidents are bound to happen over and over again taking the toll on precious human lives.

    In India there is no value for human life!!!!!!!

    A simple lesson, whenever u find a contiuous line dividing the roads means, you cannot overtake the front vehicle...its so simple, in the pict also somebody can see. We forget that one due to our simple negligence. May their souls rest in peace.

    May the souls rest in peace.The government is doing little in widening the roads and making deviders on the roads.The tax payers money is used somewhere else and roads never widened is the main reason for accident.I really do not understand why the Indian roads are same wide as they were 20 years ago.
