Mangalore, Jun 26: A landslip occurred on the National Highway 66 near Barebail, Kadri Hills here on Saturday June 25, damaging the house of one Herman C J Pereira.
The house was partially damaged in the incident and the main gate of the house is buried under a pile of mud. Pereira's car was also partially damaged.
The incident occurred at around 7.30 pm. Herman Pereira said that no authorities have visited the spot so far and urged the concerned to take necessary measures. He has already registered a case in Kadri police station against the poor quality of work done by IRCON, the contractors commissioned by National Highway Authority of India.
The road was completed just one-and-half years ago, and the poor quality of work is evident in the construction of the safety wall which is made of more sand than cement. The wall too has collapsed.
The residents were stranded after the landslip as the only way to their house was cut off. Herman is an architect and stays with his wife and son. Speaking to daijiworld he expressed his anxiety that his son and other family members were lucky to have escaped unhurt. The estimated loss in the incident is put at Rs 1 lac.
