Mangalore : When Politicos Turned Street VendorsPics: Dayanand KukkajeDaijiworld Media Network—Mangalore (PS/CN) Mangalore, Jun 26: Political leaders like former MLA Vijaykumar Shetty, JD(S)state general secretary M G Hegde, and Congress leader P V Mohan today donned the roles of vegetable and fruits vendors in the State Bank area. This was their way of showing support to the street vendors in the city and against the MCC’s ‘Operation Tiger’. Later, addressing the street vendors, former Shetty said that Operation Tiger is harmful to civilized society as the motto of the system is development of all sections of the society and not merely the rich.
He lashed at the MCC for giving permission to the district in-charge minister to construct more flats but prohibiting street vendors from earning their livelihood. The gathered people shouted slogans and said that prohibition of street vending will not be allowed at any cost. Hegde said that this is a plot by the Sangh Parivar to evacuate the street vendors belonging to the minority community. He said that earlier there used to be opposition to malls in the city but now the BJP itself is extending security to malls and complexes and neglecting the poor vendors. The show went on for an hour but the ‘tiger’ did not appear. A large number of police were deployed during this period.
The same Congress party which is ruling Maharashtra is evacuating vendors from footpaths and roads.Height of political hippocracy.Do u know the reason for the action? Court orders to keep Footpaths free of hawkers
everyone says foot path is for pedestrians i agre too. these street vendors are a headache. i want action against car owners big n smaall who park on the road and pedestrians struggle to walk??? why no operation godzilla???? to tow away the cars???
DIRTY POLITICS BY CONGRESS AND JDS
Another natak by our politicians 'do they care for these vendors',i dont think so..the footpath means for the public to walk ,why dont they give designated spots for the vendors ,help them to make a decent legal living, but they should be levied somekind of fees for doing business, the shopkeepers pay rent ,tax, license etc etc..so why not these too ..these politicians are doin their job of public duty thier way we need them too ..its a democracy my dear freinds ..
Arman, Managalore your political knowledge is very poor. For your kind information the concrete work was done by State BJP govt which Yeddy granted Rs.100 crores. Even small kid knows that development work was done by BJP govt, but cant help with the Kangress party. It's the nature of Kangress party to take the credit of good works done by others, even though the party is not involved in it and wrong things happened put it on other parties.
May be MCC can alott a place preferably near to any main road to these street vendors. Thus we can walk on footpaths and they can earn their livelyhood.
Badkkera budle!!
Praveen Kumar, Mangaluru/Bengaluru. Thanks for reading my comments. I do not care for Yeddi or who ever rules Karnataka State and I do not blame if they rule properly. Coming to the point about footpath issue I do agree your view. What I said is when people are doing all non-sense side of the road and City Corporation is never bothered to implement any law. Even in Bangalore many places street dogs are there and no one care. So it is better to solve the problem which the public can get some safe, clean environment and after that let them implement all their laws. One more incident I want to share with you when I visited Mysore Brandavan I could not stay there. The whole area urine smelling and every one will enjoy with mosquitoes bite. This is our corporation who take care of public.
Dear friends,When one party is in power, others take advantage of the populist sentiment against rational. This is how our corrupt society runs today. Rationale has been conveniently replaced by hypocrisy. Shame on those political leaders who indulge in this kind of hypocrisy.
All these bunch of jokers should be sold along with the fruits and vegetables. These idioticpoliticians, when they are not in power, they will do any cheap stunts to gain sympathy and popularity. Maureen
These politicians just cannot see any good works done by opposition party. It is illegal to trade on foothpath.Bringing caste, race, status in such matters and diving the society is really a bad idea by such useless politicians. The tiger did not disturb any vendor who trades inside the central market using proper stalls and paying rent. Selling fruits and veg. in pavement is even unhygenic. I hope the vendors understand this and co-operate in making mangalore a wonderfull city.
Footpath is meant for walking not for trading. Please note that all fotpath traders are not poor. They are all doing liiegal business. When MCC is ready to provide place in market why they are so adamant. If all footpath is encorached how citizens will walk? More and more pwople will come and footpath will vanish. Will the so called leaders allow footpath selling in front of their house.
HOW FUNNY? WHEN THE LEADERS ARE ARRIVING THEY WANT THE ROADS CLEAR FOR 3 TO 12 HOURS. FOR THE PEDESTRIANS TO WALK THERE IS NO FOOTPATH. SHAME TO OUR POLITICAL LEADERS.
Rightly said Mr.Praveen Kumar, but we still blame yeddy govt coz look at our Mangalore roads it’s concreted under central govt scheme however footpath and drainage is the duty of MCC and state govt which is still not done what do you say ?
TO HELP THE VEGETABLE VENDORS OUR TEMPORARY LEADERS SHOULD HAVE CREATED A SEPARATE PLACE. BUT NOT DEFINETLY THE FOOTPATH. IT SHOWS THE IGNORACE OF OUR LEADERS. THEY VISIT THE FOREIGN COUNTRIES FOR WHAT GOD KNOWS. IT IS SHAME FOR INDIANS.
Alwyn, Mangalore - USA first and formost would like to say that the foothpath is meant for pedastrians to walk and not for the vendors to do their business. I agree that sufficient arrangements should be made by MCC for those vendors, but the thing is that some vendors prefer more to do their business on foothpath because they have to pay rent if do they do it in their alloted stalls. Also you might be knowing there are hardly a few foothpaths in mangalore city. Near statebank area the foothpath was constructed after so many years and in the same place if the vendors do their business it will be difficult for the pedastrians to walk on foothpath. Due to this the pedastrians have to walk on the roads and you know how the city buses drive on the roads and if something goes wrong the people will again start blaming yeddy/BJP govt stating that there is no law and order in Karnataka.
And we complain that there are no proper footpaths for Pedestrians. Go a step further and sell vegetables in whatever bus stands that are left. We coolly forget the purpose for what the footpaths are built for. Im not against these poor vendors, but encroaching the footpath is just not acceptable.Just have a look at Bejai market. The existing structure was demolished and the fish and vegetable vendors were shifted to roadside. Now there is no proper market in Bejai. Are these politicians blind to this?
Roads are for Vehicles,Footpaths are for Pedestrians,simple...Why bring politics here?Vendors Please go to kardi market or kankandi, jeppu, urwa, central, kaikamba etc etc etc OR GO ONLINE..But plz keep off the streets of mangalore
Drama....hope the poor street vendors realise this...
On road side public can spit, through the garbage, urinate, and do all stupid things and our great MCC members are NOT bothered. But they want to harm the poor people who sell the vegetable and fruits for their living. We do not want TIGER to clean these people but surely we need to kill and eat our corrupted politicians.
