Doha, Mar 26: Kerala Women’s Initiative Qatar (KWIQ) in collaboration with Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) conducted its sixth season of ‘Pusthak Mela’ at ICC premises from March 17-21, with the aim of ‘Reduce, Reuse & Recycle’, this community service initiative of KWIQ gave many parents an opportunity to donate used academic textbooks of all CBSE board schools in Qatar from grade 4 onwards along with storybooks, novels, and guides and in exchange get used academic books for the new academic year for free.
“This is the sixth year we are conducting the Pusthak Mela and i am proud to say that we had an overwhelming footfall of over 1,500 visitors during the mela. Parents and children who came collect the used books were very happy and expressed their gratitude as this is a huge cost saving for them ” said Zareena Ahad, KWIQ president.
The event was inaugurated by Sachin Dinkar Shankpal, first secretary from the Embassy Of India along with KWIQ president Zareena Ahad. PN Baburajan, former ICC president and other outgoing management committee members were honored for their continuous support for all the KWIQ programs during their tenure.
ICC president AP Manikantan along with the new managing committee members, ICBF president Shanavas Bava & ISC president Abdulrahman EP were also honored.
During the honoring function, the above mentioned guests were each given a potted plant, as an environment friendly gift which is the core essence of this initiative.
KWIQ also had the privilege of having famous Malayalam film director Siddique to grace the inaugural function with his presence.
