Kaup, Mar 26: A tanker collided with a motorcycle on NH 66 opposite West Coast Nursery at Muloor, resulting in the death of both the rider and the pillion in the evening of Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Subramanya Devadiga (30) and Girish (26), residents of Palimaru Avaralu Mattu.
Both vehicles were heading from Udupi to Padubidri at the time of the accident. The impact of the collision caused both the bike rider and the pillion to be thrown onto the road. Subramanya died on the spot, while Girish succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.
Subramanya and Girish worked as drivers for Jeetendra Furtado, a contractor from Padubidri. The two had a good relationship with their employer and had taken his car for servicing on Saturday afternoon. After servicing the car and leaving it at Jeetendra's house in Palimaru, they were returning to Padubidri when the accident occurred.
The deceased were neighbors and often traveled together. Subramanya was married, and his wife worked overseas, while Girish was unmarried and the second of three children in his family.
The Kaup police arrived at the scene and took into custody Shabbir, the driver of the tanker from Bantwal, and also confiscated the vehicle.
