Bangalore, Jun 22: Former Prime Minister and JDS supremo, H D Deve Gowda, who had expressed himself in favour of bringing the office of the Prime Minister within the ambit of the proposed Jan Lokpal Bill, has announced his decision to go on fast, but for altogether a different cause.
Perhaps taking cue from leaders like Anna Hazare and Baba Ramdev, whose protest hunger protests have hit national headlines, Deve Gowda has added fast as a weapon in his well-stocked armoury of protests, fights and other forms of agitations, to get what he wants. But no, he does not want to take up indefinite hunger strike like Hazare and Ramdev. It will be between 9 am and 5 pm on Wednesday June 22.
Gowda announced his decision to undertake fast and dharna in front of the office of the deputy commissioner here on Wednesday, to register his anger at the lack of development initiatives and delay in execution of sanctioned projects in the district. He said that the letters written by him in the past to the district administration and the Chief Minister, drawing their attention to these issues, had gone unanswered. He said that works under various government schemes and projects have come to a standstill here, and that bills were not being sanctioned.
He has warned the government to take remedial action on his complaints within seven days. He plans to seek recourse to further agitations against the government’s apathy in consultation with his party, once this deadline passes.
