Mangalore: DIG Inspects District Jail, says No Weapons Found

Mangalore, Jun 16: Following the alleged attack on Rashid Malbari by another jail inmate Sharan and the former's claim that there were weapons in the district jail, DIG (prisons) V S Raju from Bangalore paid a visit to the jail here on Thursday June 16.
After conducting an inspection of the jail, V S Raja said that no weapons were found, but it was true that drugs had entered the jail premises.
He cited scarcity of jail staff as the reason for the slip, and assured that immmediate steps would be taken to recruit more policemen and securitymen.
He also asserted that such incidents will not repeat once the jail is shifted to its new premises.
On Wednesday June 15, Rashid Malbari, a key shooter of the Chhota Shakeel gang, had claimed that Sharan, who is in judicial custody in connection with the murder of K V G Medical College administrator A S Ramakrishna, had attacked him in the jail premises. He had also said that there were weapons in the jail.
