Proud Moment for Mangalore Photographers – Awards Galore

Mangalore, Jun 14: Mangalore photographers have bagged the lion’s share in the state-level photography contest hosted by the Karnataka Photographers Association this month.
Out of the 12 prizes under various categories photographers from Mangalore bagged 6 prizes and two certificates of merit.
The KPA 3rd State Level Photography Salon 2011, Vinay Sequeira of Vivek Studio Mangalore won the first prize in the Wedding Candid shots Category and My Karnataka Category. His photograph of the festivities at Sri Krishna Temple Udupi won him the first place under the My Karnataka Category while ‘Pradakshine’, a wedding scene picturized by him stood first in the Wedding Candid shots Category.

Astro Mohan of Udupi won the second place for his ‘Rural Traditional Sports’ picture under the same category.
Arul D’Souza of Crystal Studio Shirva won the second place for his ‘Goodbye Feelings’ under the Wedding Candid shots Category while Janardhana Kodavoor from Udupi won the third place in the same category. Another talented photographer of Mangalore Anil J Coelho of Photografia Studio won the certificate of merit for his picture ‘Happy Vidai’.
Famous photographer Samson Gonsalves won the second place for his ‘We Belong to the Earth’ photograph under the Digital Creations.
Vivek Sequeira’s ‘Mangalore Dasara’ picture won him the certificate of merit in the My Karnataka Category.
Speaking to Daijiworld B S Shashidhar, president of Karnataka Photographers Association expressed his happiness on the success of the content. “The main aim of KPA is to encourage our state photographers through this contest. By attending such contests the photographers will get the opportunity to get their work judged by experts in the field. It also gives them an insight into where they stand with their photography and gives scope for improvement,” he said.
Further Mr Shashidhar said that the award wining photograph taken by Vinay Sequeira will have the most coveted honour of being used on the cover page of the quarterly magazine of KPA which will be distributed to all the members units of the association.
The KPA which began in 1956 as Mysore Photographers Association has been successfully conducting such contests both at the state and national levels. This year the association received above 2200 entries under both the sections.
Entries have been received from all over India including places like Patna, Ahmedabad, Bihar, Secundrabad and Kerala.
A photo exhibition will be held in Bangalore on July 1, 2 and 3 this year where the greatest works of the photographers will be on display. The 23rd International Exhibition will also have free photography workshops for photographers to be held at the Gayatri Vihar, Palace Grounds.
On this same occasion chief minister of Karnataka B S Yeddyurappa will give away the awards to the winners of the photography contents.
