Udupi, Feb 12: A unique project has been implemented by 80 Badagubettu gram panchayat to actualise the Swacch Bharat idea of PM Modi. It has established a human faecal waste processing unit with the point of view of health of rural people and also cleanliness of the villages.
It is a big challenge to handle the faecal waste in villages when the pits made for the same are full. As the sucking machines were in short supply, removing the same through other methods and transporting them became a big issue. In order to overcome this problem a faecal waste processing unit has been established.
The unit has been built at a cost of Rs 63.36 lac. The unit can process 3000 litres of faecal waste everyday. The unit collects the faeces from houses, apartments and commercial industries and processes it scientifically. The organic manure thus produced is given to farmers at low costs.
Now the faecal waste is collected from 80 Badagubettu, Alevooru, Atradi, Kodibettu, Manipura, Kemmannu, Kallianpur, Ambalpady, Kadekaru, Udyavar, Kote, Belle and Katapadi that fall under the limits of the unit.
Other gram panchayats can also make use of the unit. A vehicle to transport the collected faeces has been bought at a cost of Rs 23 lac.
City municipality has specified the costs as Rs 3,000 per trip and Rs 35 per km for collecting the faecal wastes. Sanjeevini Sangha has taken up the responsibility of handling the unit. It has begun functioning from January 1 itself. So far it has collected 30 trips of faecal wastes and processed the same.
If public wants to make use of the service, they can get the same by paying the amount to the gram panchayat. For more information, public can contact 0820-2010020 or 9880044435.
