Udupi, Feb 10: Sri Rama Sene Mangaluru division has opposed Pramod Mutalik's decision to contest elections.
Speaking at a news conference here, Sri Rama Sene Mangaluru division president Mohan Bhat said that Sri Rama Sene will break and will get spoilt due to the competition.
“Mutalik has not taken the activists into confidence before getting down to contesting elections. Mutalik is planning to contest with the influence of an entrepreneur and an advocate from Karkala. The opponents of minister Sunil Kumar are sacrificing Mutalik. Why does he have to contest a losing battle?” he asked.
“He should contest from the winning block after speaking to Sangh Parivar. Pramod Mutalik does not have our support. Let him contest after separating from Sri Rama Sene if he wants to. Pramod Mutalik is our teacher. We do not want him to lose. A meeting of the activists has been called on February 20 to discuss the matter. Mutalik was saying that he does not want any position and respect after this. We want him to climb the steps of Vidhana Soudha. But he has caused confusion by expressing his desire to contest from Karkala. We stand united as an organisation for the last 20 years. The competition has caused confusion among the activists. We have believed BJP as the party of Hindutva. Let Congress not benefit from Mutalik in Karkala. BJP is prepared to give him position and respect. What survey has he conducted in Karkala? What does he know about Karkala?” Bhat asked.
“There is nobody other than activists with Mutalik. Politics is not easy. I am not saying this with the influence of Sunil Kumar. Four districts including Udupi, Mangaluru and Uttara Kannada are my responsibility. I am worried about our activists and not the BJP. Let us wait and see after requesting the Sangh Parivar. Mutalik is 68 years old. There is no greater insult for him than losing the elections. An entrepreneur and an advocate have personal enmity against Sunil Kumar. Two people in Karkala want Congress to win. A discussion in my residence was held in this connection two months ago. Everybody had advised him not to join those people. Now a Pramod Mutalik fan club has been formed. Does he not want Sri Rama Sene then? We will agree with his decision to contest if BJP gives up the seat for him. We do not have the capacity to see the insult meted out to him. Let him not come to the street,” said Mohan Bhat.
