Bengaluru, Feb 7: Advocates Rajesh Rai Kallangala and Vijayakumar Adagowda Patil are nominated as additional judges of the high court (HC) by the union government. An order to this effect is sent by union law and justice department on Monday.
On January 19, the Supreme Court collegium led by CJI D Y Chandrachud had recommended to the union government the names of Rajesh Rai and Vijayakumar to be nominated as judges of high court. It has also sent the name of lawyer Tajali Maulasaab Nadaf to be made as judge. But Tajali’s nomination was not approved.
Rajesh Rai is native of Kallangala of Bantwal taluk in Dakshina Kannada. He is the son of Late Vasappa Pergade and Late Jalajakshi Shedti couple. He has been working as a lawyer in the high court since 1999. Rajesh is an expert lawyer in civil and criminal cases. He got his law degree from Vivekananda College Puttur.
Vijaya Kumar Patil of north Karnataka origin has been practicing as a government lawyer for 10 years.
In total 62 posts of judges are approved for Bengaluru chief bench, Dharwad and Kalaburagi benches of high court. At present 51 judges are working and nine positions are still pending.
