Mumbai, Jun 7 (PTI) Expressing distress over the declining national child sex ratio over the last five decades, the Bombay High Court today directed all lower courts in Maharashtra to expedite trials in offences registered under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act (PCPNDT).
"We are distressed by the fact that number of cases for trial of offences registered under the Act is pending in magistrate courts for a long period of up to six years. We direct all cases under this Act to be taken up on top priority basis and decided preferably within one year," a full bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah, Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice D G Karnik observed.
