Mangaluru, Jan 20: The Mangaluru Port police have registered a case of cheating against two persons.
The accused persons Jayaram P and Ankith Bansal working as advisors to a company in Baikampady industrial area are said to have cheated the central excise and income tax department on pretext of paying taxes. The police seized records and documents pertaining to a company in Baikampady which were kept at the sixth floor of the offices of the commissioner of central excise and taxes building.
The documents and records that were seized at the time of inquest were found to have different receipts and even pages in the notebook were changed or doctored. Some pages were also found to be torn.
On investigating the issue, it was found that advisors Jayaram and Ankith had visited the offices on the pretext of paying taxes and had changed the documents, records and receipts. The accused were believed to have also forged signatures and cheated the department.
Deputy commissioner of central taxes Hanumantha Raju has filed a complaint with Port police. A case has been registered.
