Mangaluru, Jan 19: Mangaluru city police commissioner N Shashi Kumar inaugurated the two-day Manel Srinivas Nayak Memorial under-graduation inter-collegiate kabaddi tournament for men and women at Manel Srinivas Nayak Institute of Management (MSNIM) Bondel on Thursday January 19.
Addressing the gathering, Shashi Kumar said, “Kabaddi is more about strength and skill. After pro-kabaddi tournaments began, Kabaddi is gaining popularity in the country. Sports will help in developing the personality in your under-graduation and post-graduation studies. It will help you to understand to lead a team, manage stress, and how to become defensive and offensive which will be a big lesson to your life.”
Director of physical education, Mangalore University Dr Gerald Santhosh D’Souza said, “The real trophy is the experience that you gain out of this tournament.”
Correspondent MSNIM Jeevandas Narayan said, “To play kabaddi, one needs to have good coordination between mind and body. I wish all the best to the participants. Let the best team win this kabaddi tournament.”
President, Women’s National Education Society Manel Anappa Nayak wished the participants of the kabaddi tournament good luck.
Director MSNIM Dr Molly S Chaudhuri welcomed the gathering, faculty Dr Reema Frank rendered the vote of thanks and faculty Nanditha compered the event.
More than 30 teams from Mangalore University level colleges are taking part in the tournament. The winners and the runner up of the matches will be awarded with the MSNIM trophies along with attractive cash prizes.
The best raider, best defender and all-rounder of the tournament will be awarded with individual trophies for their exceptional performance during the match.
The valedictory ceremony of kabaddi tournament will be held on January 20.
