Kasargod, Jan 14: Thieves broke into two houses at Naikapu in Kumble and decamped with 33 sovereigns of gold and Rs 33,000 in cash.
In the first incident, the thieves entered the house of Vasudeva Anniah, manager of a private bank, Neerchalu branch by breaking the rods of the window. They ransacked two cupboards and took away 30 sovereigns of gold and Rs 11,000 in cash.
In the second incident, the same thieves entered the house of Mohan, who is a neighbour of Vasudeva by breaking the door and took away three sovereigns of gold and Rs 22000 in cash.
The theft occurred when Vasudeva had gone to the bank in the morning and his wife had gone to Bengaluru. Mohandas and his wife Srilatha had gone to a tailoring shop at Kumble.
Vasudeva came to know about the theft when he returned home in the evening as he saw the cupboards ransacked. Mohandas and his wife came to know about the theft when they returned home in the night. The lock on the front door was found in open condition.
Kumble police reached the spot. Finger print experts and canine squad also have collected vital clues from both houses.
