Udupi, Jan 12: Small landowners faced difficulties to build their own house under the limits of urban development authority of the city that fall under agricultural zone. Now the government has given the opportunity to build houses for upto 3000 square feet on 10 cents of land. This information was shared by MLA Raghupati Bhat.
Speaking at the press conference, Bhat said, “Thirty days' time was given to receive suggestions and objections from the public in order to amend the rule of urban development authority. Now the government has taken out an order to this effect on January 11 to convert 10 cents of land from agricultural zone to residential plot.
“In this order there is a 45% limit for five to seven cents, 35% limit for seven to 10 cents and no limits for agricultural land below five cents.
Urban development minister Bairati Basavraj had assured of fulfilling this long standing demand of the public of Udupi during the assembly session. He has already instructed the concerned officials to take corrective action immediately within the Udupi Urban Development Authority limits for allowing to build houses on 10 cents of land or 3000 square feet in area. The copy of this order is already sent to me,” Bhat said.
Manohar Kalmady, president of UUDA, members Balakrishna Shetty, Praveen Shetty Kappettu, president of city municipality Sumitra Nayak, commissioner of authority Guruprasad and others were present.
