Jan 11: At the 98th Academy Awards this year many Indian movies have been selected like Kantara, The Kashmir Files, RRR etc. Marathi movie 'Me Vasantrao' based on the life of Hindustani classical singer Dr Vasantrao Deshpande, has also joined the bandwagon of Oscar nominations from India. A surprise element of this movie is that the real life grandson of the Dr Vasanthrao, classical singer Rahul Deshpande has enacted his role.
The film was released last year in April 2022 and was well appreciated by the critics as well as the audience at large. The singer, actor and music director of the film Rahul Deshpande had also won a national award for best playback singer at the 68th national awards.
It is very interesting to note that there is a Tulunadu connection to this film. The film 'Me Vasantrao' has 22 songs in the film since the major portion of vasantrao’s life was in natya sangeet. The music of the film is a superhit with 5 hindi songs and 16 songs in Marathi.
The songs were released globally by 'OnClick Music' label which is the flagship music label of Movietone Digital Entertainment Pvt. Ltd owned by Kavita Shetty, a Tulunadu Manglorean belonging to the Muloor Kankannaguttu house near Kaup.
Kavita Shetty has played a major role in the marketing of the film since the past one year along with the team of 'Me Vasantrao' and now they are gearing up for the Oscars 2023 nomination.
It is an honor and a privilege that films which are being represented by Tulunadu born people (Rishabh Shetty and Kavita Shetty) like 'Kantara' and 'Me Vasantrao' are being lauded by the global audience. It is a mighty proud feeling for the team that Tulunadu people are achieving milestones on the world stage. They seek all the support for these movies so that more and more such representations from Tulunadu make it to the world stage year on year.
Pan Nalin's 'Chhello Show' (Last Film Show), India's official Oscar entry, also features in the list along with Vivek Agnihotri's 'The Kashmir Files', Marathi titles 'Me Vasantrao' and 'Tujhya Sathi Kahi Hi' along with R Madhavan's 'Rocketry: The Nambi Effect', 'Iravin Nizhal' and Kannada movie 'Vikrant Rona'.
