Mangaluru, Jan 11: The golden reunion of the 1972 batch of St Aloysius College was held here on Wednesday January 11.
Addressing the gathering, student of 1972 batch, Herald Fernandes said, “I would like to bow my head to our respected professors. Your presence among us has doubled our enjoyment. We are fortunate enough to be one among those hundreds of batches that have passed out from this institution. We go back to those days of our life that shaped our future and made us what we are today. This is not just a reunion of friends but also the reunion of memories. Class reunions are a special chance to see old friends. Nothing makes us feel younger today than being with those whom we knew when we were actually younger. We were all bound by togetherness and friendship and will be called proud Aloysians till our last breath. I feel proud and honoured to say that my father as well as my son was fortunate enough to study here. I hope and wish that my grandchildren will also step into our shoes and follow the legacy.”
Principal St Aloysius College Dr Praveen Martis said, “It is a great honour and privilege that you all have come back for your reunion in a special way. Our alumni have been a great ambassador of the college by reaching great heights. When you come back to the institution, you share your memories and cherish them.”
Rector St Aloysius Institutions Fr Melwin Pinto said, “We have to thank God for the memories. We have got a heart and mind to recall those memories. Your heart prompts us to do something. Those memories trigger sentiments. The attachment is not just for the building, but it is to the person. The growth of this institution is because of the alumni and the well-wishers. The goodwill that the alumni have towards this college means a lot to us. I would like to tell our students to learn something from the alumni here. All of them felt that attachment to the college and they have come here. Let that be an ideal before you.”
Meanwhile, a convocation ceremony was held for the 1972 batch and professors were felicitated.
The cheque of Rs 8,50,000 was handed over to St Aloysius College as contribution of the 1972 batch.
Registrar Dr Allwyn D’Sa was also present.
Convenor Archibald Menezes welcomed the gathering and Manoj Fernandes compered the event.
