Mangaluru, Jan 11: Kadri resident B Chandramohan Bhandary has complained of a toll fee being deducted seven months after having paid the toll before passing the toll gate.
In his complaint, he said he had been to Kundapur in May 2022 and returned via Hejamady toll plaza where Rs 40 was deducted through FASTag via PayTM. He had also received a text message to that effect. However, on November 15, 2022 at 6 am he got another text message stating that Rs 40 had been deducted from his account via PayTM as Hejamady toll fee. Chandramohan Bhandary contests that his car was at Kadri at that hour and that he had not passed the Hejamady toll gate after May. He has written a complaint to the Union Surface Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in this regard.

It is to be seen if this is a result of the cheating at the toll plaza or some other form of humbug. Bhandary said there are similar instances of toll fee being collected/ detected from road users in Bengaluru without their vehicle passing through the toll gate.
He said he had immediately reported about the deduction of toll fee from his account to the officials at the toll plaza who had asked him to furnish details of his vehicle registration number which he did. However, he said he had not got an answer as to why the toll fee was deducted from his account.
Meanwhile, Hejamady toll plaza manager Shivaprasad Rai said it is impossible for any additional amount to get deducted at the toll gate. He said this case will be examined adding that he had not received any other similar complaint.
