Bengaluru, Jan 8: Veteran journalist and former Editor of Kannada Prabha daily K Satyanarayana passed away due to age related illness in Bengaluru on Sunday morning. He was 82.
Satyanarayana started his journalistic career as a journalist from the now defunct Kannada daily, Thayinadu, and had served in Kannada Prabha for over three decades.
His popular weekly columns, Vyakti Vichaara and Nagarapradakshine in Kannada Prabha, had wide readership.
He is survived by his wife Venkamma and daughter Apoorva.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Congress Opposition leader Siddaramaiah have condoled the death of the veteran journalist.
"He was a symbol of value-based journalism, he had been the recipient of several awards including the prestigious TSR award. In his death, Kannada journalism has suffered a huge loss and lost a link to the old school of journalism,’’ Bommai said in a condolence message.
The chief minister said he has prayed to God for his family members to bear the loss and to let his soul rest in peace.
Siddaramaiah, in his condolence message, said he has lost a valuable personal friend, who was known for his incisive political commentary and intellect on political issues.
Meanwhile, condoling the death of senior journalist K Satyanarayana, the government of Karnataka has ordered that the deceased scribe be given a police guard of honour as a mark of respect in the funeral proceedings while maintaining social distancing norms as part of the Covid-19 protocols being followed.
