Kundapur, Jan 5: Work on developing the Ring Road which will connect all roads of the town was flagged off on Thursday.
As per Kundapur MLA Halady Srinivas Shetty's appeal, Rs 20 crore has been sanctioned for the project. The tender was finalised for Rs 19.8 crore and the Guddali Pooja was held on Thursday.
President of town municipality Veena Bhaskar, vice-president Sandeep Kharvi and chief officer Manjunath conducted the Guddali Pooja.
Speaking on the occasion, Veena Bhaskar said, “Citizens of Kundapur felt that the Ring Road would just remain a dream. But, this was an ambitious demand that took form under the far sightedness of MLA Halady Srinivas Shetty in 2006-07. If this road is completed, the traffic congestion will reduce inside the city. It will become possible to reach areas like Kodi without entering the city. It will also be possible to go to various places under the town municipality limits via Ring Road. So the MLA had seen the need for a Ring Road in 2006 itself. Today his dream is being realised.”
Members of town municipality, officials and public were present. Though many a times the proposal to construct the Ring Road was sent, the project was getting delayed for one reason or the other. Ring Road which was built at a cost of Rs 1 crore was not maintained in later years. Ring Road which begins from Sangam in Kundapur meets Church Road via Gangavali river basin. From there access to Kundapur town will be nearer.
