Which music genre relaxes the most to a dog?

Dec 5, 2022

If you're a big music fan who plays different genres of music around the house you'd be surprised to know that your furry pets like them too. From Beethoven to

Iron Maiden, your dog can differentiate the genres and display his authentic response to them. If your pup likes or dislikes the music you'd find certain shifts in their body language. Many wiggles their tails, and lay down on the couch when they enjoy the music whereas they continuously bark to exhibit their dissatisfaction.

One of the many reasons dogs prefer music is because it calms them down in tough circumstances. From loud construction commotion to thunderstorms, pups can be very sensitive to noise. Playing some soothing music can be very effective in covering up the intensity of the chaos. Animal experts even suggest leaving music on while your dog is alone at home to keep them engaged. Also if you have a new puppy at home who's trying to adjust to their new family, playing some music for the little guy will assist with settling their nerves.

According to data, there are 41 genres of music that exist in the world. Betway recently conducted a study to determine the genres that are most relaxing to a dog and the ones that are not so much. Using a fitness tracker, dogs' stress levels were observed when different kinds of melody played in the background. The genres involved Folk, Heavy Metal, Jazz, Hip-hop, Classical, and Pop.

Folk, Pop, and Jazz were elected as the top three genres that allowed the participating dogs to get the most amount of rest. When Folk songs were playing the pups on average rested for 46 minutes while for Pop and Jazz it was 41 and 42 minutes. For one dog Folk music worked miraculously and they did not even move an inch from their spot.

The fitness tracker also tracked the quality of the dogs' sleep and with an 88% score, Folk was again a winner. A doggie in particular had a 92% sleep score.

The next on the list were Jazz with an 87% score, followed by Pop with an 86% sleep score. Looking at the stress levels it concluded that the dogs felt most chilled only when they were exposed to Folk and Jazz melodies. Out of 290, the highest anxiety level that a canine recorded after metal music played, folk restrained the anxiety to only 90. Nevertheless for pop music, it was up to 113/290, and for Jazz, it was the lowest of all 66/290. The study concluded that Folk, Pop, and Jazz were the best options dog owners have in order to keep their furry babies relaxed. And it also revealed that for dogs heavy metal and hip-hop music can be extremely bothersome.
