Bantwal, Nov 20: A woman has filed a complaint against her husband and his family alleging of dowry harassment at Punjalkatte police station.
It is said that Kiran Lobo, son of the late Vincent Lobo, a resident of Kapigudde of Kukkipadi village had married a native of Assam, Shilpi Chaasaa (25) on January 2, in 2021. After their marriage the woman was living in her husband’s house.
In her complaint she has alleged that a day after their marriage she was subjected to physical harassment for dowry and to bring gold ornaments by her husband Kiran Lobo and his family members Rita Lobo, Ida Lobo and Walter Lobo.
Shilpi has also complained that the family members had mentally harassed her as well including her husband who tortured her after two months of their marriage demanding dowry.
In her complaint, she alleged that her family had arranged for a reception in Assam and invited members of her husband's family members to the function, but they demanded Rs 50,000 as dowry.
When it was informed that her family could not arrange for cash then, Shilpi said in her complaint that she was abused, assaulted, and tortured.
But Shilpi said she had given them the money after obtaining the same from her sister and her mother. She alleged that members of her husband’s family continued to torture her even after the reception adding that Shilpi was not provided with medical attention when she was sick.
Shilpi has in her complaint alleged that she was kept under house arrest for a few days when the accused went outside.
One of the accused Walter Lobo used to harass her by demanding her nude videos after calling her up, Shilpi said in her complaint. Though she brought this issue to the notice of her husband and mother-in-law they did not respond, she said.
Shilpi also alleged that she was forced to abort her pregnancies in February 2022 and March 2021. She alleged that she was taken to a doctor near Siddakatte and given pills.
Even the accused persons have threatened the victim. The victim Shilpi had informed about the issue to her mother and her sister who later arrived at her place. They admitted Shilpi to the hospital as an inpatient in Wenlock Hospital as she suffered physical harassment from October 7 to October 9.
In this regard, the woman had filed a complaint on October 12 at Punjalkatte police station.
