Chitradurga, Nov 18: Indiana Heart Clinic, established by Indiana SJM Heart Centre, was inaugurated on KSRTC Old Depot Road here.
Addressing the gathering, Chitradurga MLA G H Thippareddy said, “This district in central Karnataka did not have proper facilities for heart care. It is a matter of joy that a heart care centre has opened here."
People from this backward district had to travel to Manipal or Bengaluru for treatment. Three years ago, Indiana Hospital and Heart Institute, Mangaluru, established a heart centre at Basaveshwara Hospital, Chitradurga. The opening of this centre would help people receive expert heart care, he added.
According to the MLA, this is the only heart care centre of its kind in the Chitradurga district and has three specialist doctors.
The legislator expressed concern about the increase in heart patients, especially youth. He suggested that rather than relying on treatment, it is better to seek specialist advice to prevent the disease.
Dr Yusuf Kumble, managing director of Indiana Hospital and Heart Institute, said the clinic would help detect heart diseases. He added that while treatment becomes inevitable once the disease sets in, it is better to undergo preventive health check-ups.
Dr R Ranganath, district health officer; Dr Chandrashekar Raju, district coordinator, Ayushman Bharat-Arogya Karnataka; cardiologists Dr Karthik, Dr Sujay, Dr Manjunath, and Roopesh Kumar Shetty, chief operating officer of the Heart Centre, were present.
