Kaup, Nov 9: A retired high school headmaster died on Tuesday November 8 after falling into a gorge.
The deceased is identified as Ramadas Shivathaya (75), a resident of Mooduperampalli in Shivalli village was on a visit to his sister's house in Inanje when this incident occurred.
He had retired from a private aided school as a headmaster.
On November 6 in the afternoon Ramadas had left home after locking his home but had gone missing ever since, according to a complaint filed by Ramadas's nephew with the Manipal police.
On examining the CCTV footage at the Undaru Sri Vishnumurthy temple it was found that Ramadas was present in the temple premises. But, when people came looking for Ramadas on Tuesday to find out his whereabouts it was found that he had drowned in a gorge near the temple.
In the complaint, Ramadas's nephew Shashank Shivathaya said the former had lost his way after reaching his sister's place. Later, he went near the gorge and got drowned in the water, he said.
Kaup police have registered a case and are investigating.
The deceased is survived by a brother and a sister. He was a patron of Yakshagana art and had organised seven Yakshagana Bayalata melas at his home premises.
