Beltangady, Nov 7: State government ordered COD investigation in the death of senior dalit leader, leader of Bahujana Movement and retired BSNL employee P Deekaiah.
Deekaiah was found in collapsed condition with injury to his head in his house on July 6. He was admitted to hospital, where he breathed his last after two days. After donating his organs as per the wish of his family members, his mortal remains were buried as per Buddhist religion at Poyya of Kaniyoor village on July 9.
On July 15, family members of Deekaiah suspected some foul play in his death and raised a complaint with Beltangady police. Deekhaiah’s body was exhumed on July 15 and post mortem was done in the presence of tahsildar.
Beltangady police who did thorough investigation, interrogated several people based on the suspicion raised by the family members of Deekaiah. In the midst of the investigation by Beltangady police, family members of Deekaiah accused that the investigation is not conducted in proper manner and urged to hand over the matter to COD. On November 4, the government has ordered COD inquiry into the death and has asked Beltangady police to handover all the documents to COD.
