Kundapur, Oct 28: Residents had to struggle in the absence of a road to carry a dead body at Melkeri in Kundapur Municipal Council limits to the crematorium, on October 27.
Sadananda Kharvi (67), a resident of second ward, Melkeri, Kharvikeri had passed away on October 27. His mortal remains had to be carried by people to the crematorium situated at Chickensal at a distance of about 100 meters due to the absence of approach road.
There are about 18 houses in Melkeri. The residents have been facing similar issues during the last rites. People have to walk carrying the dead bodies in between the open drains. Local resident Dinesh says that the mosquito menace has also increased here.
There is a path to walk but there is no land available to construct proper roads. Chief officer of the municipal council K Gopalakrishna Shetty said that if the residents give up a portion of their land, the matter of constructing the road will be taken up in the next meeting of the council.
