Mangaluru, Oct 27: The government has legally seized three slaughterhouses in the city with a view to crack down on slaughterers of cattle.
The revenue department has seized three abattoirs in Mangaluru north constituency under the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act 2020, Act 8 (4). The government has taken into possession slaughterhouses at Katipalla, Arkula and Ganjimath run illegally.
Acting on the direction of MLA Bharath Shetty, the assistant commissioner Mohan Mohan ordered the seizure of slaughterhouses.
The revenue department has ordered seizure of slaughter houses and has directed the authorities to stop sale of land and other activities.
The police raided the slaughter houses in the Mangaluru North constituency and took the place and goods into custody before submitting the report to the assistant commissioner. Notices have been served to land owners and their properties have been seized. The abattoirs fell in the jurisdiction of Bajpe, Surathkal and Mangaluru rural. While the Ganjimath abattoir belonged to Yousuf, Batish owned the Aarkula slaughter house and Hakeem owned the slaughter house at Katipalla.
