Beltangady, Oct 27: A group of youths took to a unique form of protest against the potholes and the style of functioning of the government and the elected representatives and at the same time celebrated Deepavali by lighting lamps in the potholes.
On Wednesday evening, a group of youths lit lamps on the potholed road in Layeela village near the Raghavendra Swamy temple on the national highway (NH) of the taluk.
Speaking on the occasion, CPIM leader Shekar Layeela said the elected representatives and the officials who were frequenting these roads daily have to be shown the potholes and so the potholes on the highway were lit with lamps.
District leader of the Congress social media cell Sandeep S Alandangady said the poor condition of the roads in the taluk have attracted attention all over the state. He said it is a disgrace that minister Sunil Kumar had recently avoided this stretch and changed the route during his travel.
Youth Congress president Anil Pai, district youth Congress secretary Prajwal Jain, Youth INTUC president Naveen Gowda Savanalu, Ganesh Kaniyooru, social workers Altaf, Alwyn, Naushad Kaikamba and others were also present.
