Udupi, Oct 22: "A detailed discussion has already taken place in view of removing the Surathkal toll gate. The toll gate is in the final stage of removal. As per my information, the toll gate will be removed by November end this year," said Dakshina Kannada in-charge minister Sunil Kumar.
He was speaking at the Udupi press club. Sunil denied to answer the question on trolls against Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee co-coordinator and former corporator Prathiba Kulai Prathiba Kulai by saying ‘No comments’.
Speaking on the demand to add Tulu language in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, Sunil Kumar said, "This has been already brought to the notice of the central government. We have been pressurising through the Member of Parliament. We have no clue on how the screening process may take place for the inclusion. Including Tulu as a state language is in process. The committee meant for it also recommend the same. We have sent the files to the legal department. The result shall be out soon.”
Over about the non-payment of salaries to Tulu teachers in schools, he said, "Tulu teachers were appointed through the Tulu academy. They were paid honorary amount and not salaries. After Covid, this has been discontinued. The issue has come to my notice. I will discuss it with the education department.”
About the revision in electricity tariff, Sunil Kumar said, "The revision in tariff used to take place based on rates of coal and other raw materials. This is being done from 2014 onwards. I have discussed with the chief minister to change this system. A systematic plan to revise the electricity tariff just once a year is underway. Prepaid meters will be installed first in the governmental departments. More than Rs 6,000 crore payment is pending from the government departments to the energy department.”
