Mangaluru, Oct 20: Surathkal toll gate protest committee will hold indefinite round the clock sit in strike from October 28 demanding the closure of the gate.
The decision was taken by the committee in the meeting that was held at Surathkal.
Thousands of public of undivided district of Dakshina Kannada had participated in the toll gate gherao that was held on Tuesday. But the BJP government did not budge. Instead the state government used police force or protesters and lath charged them. This shows the anti-people stance of local MLAs, MP and BJP government.
In the meantime, seeing the tremendous response of public for the demand to close the gate, MP Nalin, district administration and NHAI had requested the protest committee for 15 to 20 days of time.
Convener of protest committee Muneer Katipalla said, “The public has lost faith on the promises of MP as he has not kept his earlier promises. Even now, if we stop the protest based on his verbal assurance, toll collection at Surathkal will continue forever. That is why the committee has decided to hold indefinite strike in front of the toll gate.
“Time period of district administration and MP Nalin gets over on November 7. We will begin strike on October 8. On November 7, opinion of public will be taken with respect to stopping of toll collection. We will create pressure through indefinite strike,” said Muneer.
