Mumbai, May 1: GSB Sabha, Matunga, one of the organizations functioning from Central Mumbai, had organized it’s annual ‘Gudi Padwa Snehamilan’ on Sunday April 24 at their complex located at Cosmopolitan Ground, near SNDT College, Matunga in the metro. The event was marked with a sprit of festivity and elation.
Jeetendra Kamath, an eminent industrialist and business tycoon from Nagpur, graced the occasion in the capacity of chief guest. He was accompanied by his wife at the dais. Sudha Pai, president of the Sabha, presided over the function and welcomed the guests, while Uday Mallya, secretary of the Sabha, conducted the proceedings of Sneha Milan programme in a disciplined manner. Mahila Mandal president and judges of the talent contest were also at the dais.
On this memorable occasion, immediately after the variety entertainment talent contest and chief guest’s speech, Kamalaksha Saraf, a veteran Konkani and Kannada theatre artiste, was conferred with the ‘GSB Talent Recognition Award – 2011’ in recognition of his selfless and magnanimous contribution to the field of performing arts, more particularly towards his excellence in the theatrical performances spanning over the last three decades. A reputed professional practicing company secretary, Saraf has excelled in dramatics in the Konkani plays like ‘Sarve Janah Kanchanamashrayante’ (44 shows), ‘Lagna Pissche’ (18 shows), ‘Dewan Saakshi Dilli’ (12 shows), ‘Satyavrata Karna’ (12 shows) and many other full length and one act plays. Of late, his Konkani play, Nandadeepa, directed by Dr Chandrashekhar Shenoy, entered the Limca Book of Records. Kamalaksha Saraf is one of the most successful artistes of Konkani Triveni Kala Sangam, Mumbai. He has translated the Limca-fame Konakani play into Kannada, also titled ‘Nandadeepa’. Mumbai Kannada audiences have enjoyed watching the said play repeatedly.
Cultural programmes like singing of songs, dances by the children of the Samaj etc were held thereafter. The ‘Sneha Milan’ concluded with sumptuous dinner.
