Udupi, Apr 25: Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejavar Mutt has sought the appointment of the state environment minister, Krishna J Palemar, as the president of the committee appointed by the government to examine the extent of environment pollution being created by Udupi Power Corporation Ltd’s (UPCL) thermal power plant near Padubidri. He has also favoured the appointment of environmentalist, Ramachandra, as the vice president of the said committee.
“The state government has included Dr Subhash Yaragatti and Prof G Sriniketan of NITK Suratkal, Dr A Ganesh and Dr Jayadev Bhat of Manipal Institute of Technology, and senior officials of Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, as well as forest and ecology departments. Prof T V Ramachandra of Centre for Ecological Sciences, Bangalore, who has been recommended by me, and environmental scientist, Dr Sagar Dhar of Serena Foundation Hyderabad, have also been included by the government in the said committee,” the Swamiji said.
