Udupi, Apr 24: Temples promote peace of mind in the hectic pace of life, said Swami Kalahastendra Swami of Anegundi mutt, Katpady, near here.

Swami Kalahastendra was speaking after inaugurating a religious discourse held on the annual Ratotsav at Mahishamardini temple, Nilavar, near here on Friday April 22.

Meanwhile, Swami Kalahastendra urged the devotees to contribute their mite for the renovation of temples, which would benefit the devotees with better amenities.

In his presidential address, MLA Raghupati Bhat said that the charities towards the Nilavar temple development is essential, while state funds also will be sought in this regard.

Senior journalist and religious scholar K L Kundantaya spoke on religious beliefs on the occasion.

MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary, Bengalore hotelier Hallimane Nilavar Sanjeev Rao, Nilavar Yakshagana troupe manager Y Karunakar Shetty, Badagubettu Credit Co-operative Society chief manager B Jayakar Shetty, Jayadurga temple managing trustee Jayaprakash Kedlaya, Nilavar temple trustees Babu Devadiga, Suryanarayan Ganiga, Bhuvanendra Devadiga, Karunakar Kulal, Satish Naik, Premavati Ullura and Sharada R Suvarna were present.

Yakshagana play was staged by the artistes of Nilavar Mahishamardini Dashavatara yakashagana troupe and Perdoor Ananatapadmanabha yakshagana troupe on Friday night. 

Nilavar temple managing trustee Baikady Suprasad Shetty welcomed the gathering. Nilavar temple administrative officer M P Puradaswamy proposed the vote of thanks. Gunasheela compered the programme.
