Moodbidri, Sep 17: Public is widely appreciating the dare devil act of ambulance owner cum driver Anil Rueben Mendonca of Moodbidri, who took a labourer of Uttar Pradesh in coma after he fell from the roof top of a arecanut godown, to Moradabad which is at a distance of 2700 km from the city within 41 hours.
Mehendi Hassan is a labourer from Uttar Pradesh, who used to work at the arecanut godown centre at Moodbidri. During work, he fell down accidentally from the roof and went into coma. As per the suggestion of his accomplices from Uttar Pradesh, the owner of the godown arranged flight ticket to take the labourer to Uttar Pradesh. However, the airlines refused to take the labourer without doctor and nurse accompanying the patient.
The owner of the arecanut godown requested Airavat ambulance owner-cum-driver Anil Mendonca to help. Without doctor and nurse, equipped with only the oxygen cylinder and discharge certificate given by the hospital plus letter from the police station, Anil took one more driver Ashwath along with him and started from Moodbidri on the evening of September 10 to Moradabad.
One of the escorts of patient Hassan knew driving. It also helped. Except filling diesel, Anil did not stop the ambulance anywhere else and reached Shreya Neuro centre at Moradabad on September 12 at 10.30 am.
Dr Ajay Jain, neurologist was surprised to see Anil carrying the coma patient in ambulance without a doctor and nurse and appreciated his daring and said, “You are great.”
Anil Mendonca returned back to Moodbidri on September 15. All the cost of transportation was borne by the kind-hearted owner of the arecanut godown. Anil also said that injured Hassan is recovering.
