We thought we saw his face today
in the sparkle of the morning sun.
And then we heard the angel say
“His work on earth is done.”
 
We thought we heard his voice today
then laugh his hearty laugh.
And then we heard the angel say
“There’s peace little one at last.”
 
We thought we felt his touch today
in the breeze that rustled by.
And then we heard the angel say
“The spirit never dies.”
 
We thought that He had left us
for the stars so far above.
And then we heard the angel say
“He left us with his love.”
 
We thought that we would miss him
and never find our way.
And then we heard the angel say
“He’s with us every day.”
