Remembering Jerald Gilbert D'Almeida

(1963-2016; Shirva/New Delhi)

The news of your demise on Sunday 14 August, 2016 spelled immeasurable sadness in Shirva, Delhi and left your classmates and friends broken hearted across different parts of the world.

Yet, we understand you never wanted our tears nor our sadness.

All you wanted  was, for us to remember  you  as the ever  cheerful  Jerry  because  you  believed in the  joyful celebration of life. You knew your impending journey since April 2015, and gracefully prepared yourself as well as us to accept and acknowledge it in full reverence.

Yet, as if giving light to dying hope, our unending prayers and your exceptional will power worked miracles.

You survived All India Institute of Medical Sciences to travel to Shirva and acknowledge your care, concern and well-being for your family and employees alike.

Your kindness, concern and responsibility towards Konkani language, Delhi’s Mangalorean community, orphanages and leprosy homes only brought more happiness and fulfilment to the lives of others.

Your  concern to help visitors in Delhi, friends in crisis or difficulty only show us further your clarity of mind and heart. Your reverence towards your Alma Mater was great. You worked immensely hard round the year to become a successful service provider never bringing into limelight the hardship that goes into it, but only providing service whenever required. And you did so 33 valuable years.

Dear Jerry, if words could actually express our gratitude even then a heart-felt “ thank you’’ would have been inadequate to express our gratefulness towards your extraordinary service to humanity.

Now that you have left us for your heavenly abode, we feel your absence greatly.

We however, pray with sincere hearts to God to grant you eternal rest and peace.

We also pray to God to give strength to bear your absence, especially to your wife Lavina, your daughter Jennifer, your son Nishan and to all your family members.
