Maxim Miranda (75), son of the late John Francis & the late Joanna Miranda (nee D’Souza) of Bajpe; husband of Jacinta Miranda (nee Sequeira) for 40 years, passed away in Ann Arbor, Michigan on Saturday, August 29, 2015.

Father of Malcolm Jason (Jacintha Lobo) of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Miriam Joan McNamara of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Mauriat John of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Merryl Julian (Karen Ramsey) of Stewartsville, New Jersey & Merrick Joel (Catherine Darnell) of Mission Viejo, California.

Brother of the late Raymond (the late Agnes Martis) of Chicago, Illinois; Gilbert Abbundius (Jessie Pinto) of “Primrose”, Bajpe; Louisa Juliana of Bajpe; Sister Miriam (Bethany) of Bendore; Irene Benedicta Lobo (Frank) of “Sangeet Vihar”, Bijey, Mangalore; Cyril (Maryna D’Souza) of Canton, Michigan; Priscilla Eugene of Chicago, Illinois and Valerian Richard (Prescilla Coutinha) of Bajpe.

Grandfather of Michael, Maryssa, Melanie, Morgan (children of Miriam McNamara); Felix Alexander, Maxim James (children of Merrick & Catherine Miranda); Glen Bernard, Sereena Rosalia (children of Malcolm & Jacinta Miranda).

My grief is unspeakable. The news took some time to sink in as I never expected his end to be so close. Both of us had a close bond while at Chickmagalur, Bangalore and Bajpe. This slackened when I went abroad, and he went to the US.

During my stay in the US this closeness came to the fore once again. I still remember my sojourn at Ann Arbor and my Christmas with him. I had seen Jacinta take good care of him. I have lost a very loving brother. I can imagine him bearing his pain stoically.

Continued from Part 1...........

He came back to Mangalore and after few months he met this charming, beautiful, pretty lady (Jacinta Sequeira) in Bangalore (at that time she was teaching at St. Aloysius Boys’ High School in Bangalore after her B.Ed from St. Ann’s Training College in Mangalore) and just like they say… "love at the first sight”, they got married in 1975. They went into a joint venture and opened their radio business under the banner “Miranda Electronics”, located in the MCC Bank Building at Hampankatta. At that time he was the authorized Phillips radio dealer in Mangalore.

After couple of years later they closed their dealership business and migrated to the United States. They had 5 lovely children – 4 sons and 1 daughter, now they have all grown up and settled in life. All four sons excelled in their studies and graduated with Engineering Degrees from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Daughter went into managerial profession.

My brother had another passion - Gardening. He and my sister-in-law spent evenings working in the garden growing vegetables and fruits and I am sure his kids and surely I had enjoyed them very much.

My brother was an honest man who loved everyone, laughed often, who looked for the best in others and gave them the best that he had, and thereby earned the respect and love of all who knew him.

My dearest Sister-in-law (Mogachi Voni) Jacinta, Malcolm, Miriam, Mauriat, Merryl, and Merrick & families, please accept our heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies on passing away dearest member of your family.

My brother Maximbab was a very special, multi-talented individual, a loving father, dearest brother, uncle, godfather, grandfather and a great friend.

Losing a sibling is never easy...it leaves such a big vacuum in my heart. He had been a guide, mentor, guardian and strength while I was growing up.

I feel obligated to give a brief introduction about his life & achievements. Like all of us in Bajpe, he attended St. Joseph’s High School. That time this was the only high school we had in Bajpe. After his graduation (B.Sc) from St. Aloysius College, he came back to Bajpe and taught us (I was in grade 10 or 11) in the same High School. He also taught at Rosa Mystica High School in Gurpur for some time. He was one of the best teachers we had that time. Even though he was a botanist, he was very much into Electronics. I remember he built his first radio while he was studying in college and all of us at home were very much excited.

After couple of years of teaching my brother went to Bombay to do his Masters and graduated from University of Bombay with an M.Sc Degree.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of our dear Uncle Maxim. He was cheerful, loving, affectionate and soft spoken. I have fond memories of my dear Uncle Maxim. He always had a smile on his face. He will be truly missed. We pray that our Lord brings Uncle Maxim's family - Aunty Jacinta, Malcolm, Miriam, Mauriat, Merryl, Merrick and all his brothers and sisters the much needed comfort and peace during this sad time.
